Myanmar armed rebels attacked, killed 15
Myanmar armed rebels attacked, killed 15 At least seven people have been killed in attacks by armed rebels in Myanmar. The attack was aimed at an elite military college and government establishment in the north of the country on Thursday. Most of the casualties are members of the security forces.
Four other locations, including the Defense Service Technological Academy, were located in the Pine Owen Luin district of the Shan state, according to a news agency Reuters report. Army engineers were trained at that academy. Armed group Northern Alliance has claimed responsibility for the attack.
An army spokesman, Tun Tun Ni, said troops were fighting with rebels in the Goktek Viaduct rail bridge area near Naong Ch. Later, after crossing another bridge, the rebels set a police office on fire. Seven soldiers, policemen and civilians were killed in the incident.
Northern Alliance Arakan Army spokesman Khain Tu Khai claimed responsibility for the attack, saying their fighters took part in Thursday's attack.
"We have launched this attack to respond against the Burmese army," he said. This is the answer given to the attack on our comrades. '
